On 1st August 2018, the Swiss National Day in Bhutan was celebrated at the Royal Textile Academy in Thimphu. The Ambassador of Switzerland to India and Bhutan, Dr. Andreas Baum, assured the audience, that “Switzerland is here to stay and be active, no longer as a development partner, but as one half of a full-fledged partnership between equals”.
During the Swiss National Day celebrations, organized by the Embassy and the Bhutan-Switzerland Society (BSS), the Consulate of Switzerland in Bhutan was opened. Lyonpo Kinzang Dorji, current BSS President and former Prime Minister of Bhutan, is the first Swiss Honorary Consul in Bhutan.
